Jawaban atau kalimat itu melegenda dan menjadi kata-kata "sakti" para penggemar mendaki gunung. bahkan diberkembang bagi kegiatan2 alam bebas lainnya. Kalimat jawaban itu mungkin muncul secara spontan dari seorang George Herbert Leigh Mallory, yang menutup mata untuk selamanya pada kebekuan The North Face - Mount Everest, 8-9/6/1924.

Tampomas II, terbakar dan tenggelam di Kepulauan Masalembo. Tragedi memilukan akibat kelalaian management transportasi yang menyebabkan ratusan putra bangsa meninggal ini menyeret Iwan Fals berceloteh lewat bait syairnya yang tajam.. celoteh camar tolol dan cemar..
Untuk ukuran gunung buat kegiatan mendaki, Tampomas tidak begitu menantang. Ketinggian sebuah gunung kerap menjadi ukuran para penggiat pendaki untuk memasukan ke dalam list "harus di jajal". dan Tampomas sebuah gunung "kerdil" dengan ketinggian di bawah 2.000 mdpl. apa menariknya??? wal hasil, tidak begitu banyak para pengejar "puncak" menjajal track dan menggapai puncaknya.
Senyum manis dan lambaian tampomas terlalu ramah. Menyapa dan menebar pesona setiap kaki mulai memasuki kampung halaman, di Kaki gunung ini. Rutinitas kerja dan berkeliling antar pulau membuat rindu menjajaki jalan setapak diantara hijau dedaunan hutan kian akut. Let's climbing.. go track.. go to the top..
Memasuki masa liburan sekolah dasar, lambayan ramah sang gunung pun dipenuhi. sekaligus memenuhi keinginan si sulung untuk mengijak atap bumi. Berenam, aku mulai memenuhi rasa rindu akan gunung. Menghitung mundur, terakhir mendaki gunung Merapi, tahun 2002. artinya, lima tahun telah terlewati memendam rasa rindu akan mendaki gunung.
Kawasan konservesi yang memprihatinkan
Pendakian dimulai dari TPA (tempat pembuangan akhir) sampah. sepanjang jalan menuju post 1, bertebaran lubang2 dari si tangan besi "begho" yang mengeruk tambang galian C. tak jelas.. mana batas kawasan hutan lindung kawasan hutan gunung Tampomas.
TPA sampah ditempatkan di ketinggian.. berdampingan dengan hutan lindung.. dibawahnya.. mesin desel dari beegho tak pernah berhenti. mengeruk pasir dan batu untuk kebutuhan pembangunan fisik tanpa henti.... sepanjang hari.
Bisa dibayangkan, dampak sampah yang ditempatkan pada dataran tinggi bagi kehidupan dibawahnya. pencemaran... apalagi, management sampah di negeri ini, tidak memilih sambah jenis berbahaya dan beracun, organic maupun anorganic. pencemar itu meresap ke dalam tanah.. menguap mencemari udara dan juga terbawa air hujan, menyatu dengan air permukaan yang menjadi sumber kehidupan warga di kawasan bawahan.
sementara, tambang2 pasir tanpa kontrol yang jelas.. merusak bentang alam dan ekosistem kawasan. pada beberapa dusun, secara nyata telah menyebabkan kelangkaan air bersih. Bahkan pada musim kemarau, air pun menjadi barang mahal. satu kasus tragis pun terjadi.. salah satu warga harus meregang nyawa akibat berebut mengairi sawahnya. Kelangkaan air yang tek pernah terjadi sebelumnya. Belum lagi debu2 yang setia menyelimuti perumahan penduduk bersamaan sang truck berbadan besar pengangkut pasir melintas perkampungan. Kerusakan jalan.... akibat jalan yang tak sanggup menerima beban kendaraannya.
Menuju Puncak
perjalanan menuju pucak gng Tampomas sedikit menjemukan. Deretan pohon di dominasi tanaman monokultur, Pinus. Menjelang puncak, baru hutan alam dapat ditemui. dimulai dari tanaman pakis bertubuh bongsor. dan berbagai tanaman khas dataran tinggi (hutan tropis pegunungan) satu persatu mulai memarkerkan keperkasaannya; jamuju (podocarpus imricatus), saniten (castanea argentaea), rotan (calamus sp), Kadaka (Dryanaria sp), rasamala (altingia excelsea) dll. Begitu indah.. begitu sempurna. Hutan tanpa campur tangan manusia dalam pertumbuhan dan perkembangannya. Kesempurnaan alam dengan bumbu nyanyian riang satwa liar.
sanghyang lawang.. sanghyang taraje.. dan beberapa nama khas sunda bisa memaksa bulu kuduk berjingkrak. segenap cerita mistik bertebaran di kampung bawah. tentu semakin lengkap dengan berbagai sesaji yang berserakan di beberapa tempat yang dianggap kramat.
Menjelang puncak.. goa akibat proses erupsi gunungapi ratusan tahun lampau menyeringai. selamat datang hai manusia angkuh... begitu kira2 sang goa bergumam. jaga sisa hutan ini dengan tanganmu.. lindungi dengan segenap kemampuanmu..
tiga ratus meter dari puncak utama gng tampomas, terdapat makam tua. Makan yang dipercaya sebagian orang sebagai makan asli Prabu Siliwangi dan pengikutnya. Namun, ada juga yang mempercayai, makan kramat itu merupakan tempat peristirahat sang penyebar Islam di tatar sunda. entah lah... yang jelas, di areal pemakaman tersebut cukup banyak tenda darurat yang digunakan para pencari kesaktian dan pencari kekayaan.
Rindu itu kembali datang...
setelah turun dari gunung itu.. kerinduan untuk mendaki gunung tidak lah sirna. justru sebaliknya.. semakin menggebu.. lagi.. lagi.. and lagi
Mulai lah bersama si sulung, Sodya Yadyaunnajabah (Dea), mulai melist gunung mana yang kira2 akan dijadikan sasaran berikutnya. Merapi, Lawu dan Semeru adalah target berikutnya yang akan kami daki.
di hati kecil.. Gunung Leuser adalah obsesi. Gunung yang memang tidak banyak orang mendapatkan keberuntungan sampai ke puncaknya. Bukan karena tinggi gunung ini, tapi karena perjalanan yang membutuhkan waktu lama. dan tentu saja keamanan yang tidak di jamin.
